Sequence of Images

Title: School of Fish, 2011

While looking for inspiration for my sequence, I came across Robin Rhode's photos. I liked it mainly because of its color and creativity. I wanted, like this artist, to take pictures of artistic works. In 1997 Rhode co-opt public spaces throughout Johannesburg (South African) with his performances and drawings, addressing such issues as race and violence.

My sequence shows the birth of art. The idea was to come forth with how a seemingly simple thing like the first sketch is changing into something beautiful (my lady with a pearl looks a bit creepy, but I did my best :'-)). Only the author can predict the final effect of his work, and that is what I wanted to show. As inspiration, I looked on the Velmeer's painting, which was Lady with the pearl earing. It is one of my favorite pieces of art and I had had the opportunity to paint a few times before. However, for the first time I used the coloured pencils, not paints. Hence the effect is not dazzling. The eyes should not be so bulging, moreover I could put more strong color with a black pencil.
I used the application on the phone to make the collage and brighten the photos, as they had seemed too dark.
This is orginal version:-)

I hope you enjoy!

  1. It's an interesting subject for your sequential image task. Do you feel it has worked though? Would it have been better to do some editing to perhaps crop the images for consistency and remove any unwanted areas or background? Plus the angle you have taken the images distorts the work slightly - so maybe more thought needed to be taken over the photography. The research is missing for this piece - you could look at any of the photographers we looked at in class, or choose one of your own and discuss their work in context (linking) to your own work.
The advertising project needs to be added to your blog, as even though it was a group task, all of your blogs need to have the initial ideas, research, process and final piece with reflection. Try to get caught up by the end of this week as we will be moving on to website creation next week.

  2. You have edited this and changed the sequence, which is great. Don't forget to add the source for the original image. You have good commentary on the research too.
