Sketchup pt2
As I told yesterday I want to present how I used Sketchup in the major project. I designed a Building with no typically sharp, I wanted to archive it by adding few cones under different pitch.
Firstly, I created an underground floor, as I believe it is the most important part of my building (there is the entrance, offices, toilets). I drow a square by using Rectangle tool (R on a keyboard). Then I made a rectangle by using this same tool, next I connected both of them together by making a hall between them. I used Pencil tool. Afterword, I use Push/Pull tool to gain a 3D object.
When this had been done, I started to make the ground floor, which should have been a dome. I drow a circle (C on keyboard) in middle of the square, and I changed the perspective (Orbit, Pan, Zoom) to see better, then I drow semicircle perpendicularly to ground. I use 2 Point Arc tool. Then I clicked on Tool menu and choose Follow me function. I pressed on each edge and I got the dome.
In the distance from the dome, I draw the four other semicircles. I tried to connect it using the rectangles as floor and Line tool to draw walls, but when I turned on Follow me function, the floor disappeared.
I could draw it one more time, but the effect which I gained was not as good. The construction looks heavy and rudely, it was no sense to continue, as I wanted completely something different.
This way I started one more time, but not from making the basement, but from the highest part of the building. It should have looked similar to a cone, hence I draw a cylinder (using Circular tool and Push/Pull). Then I use Move to make sharp resembling cone and it was time to use Offset tool to make smalle a circle in middle on base. Thanks to this I could cut it and got an empty middle. Afterwards, I used Move to twist this figure, because then it started to look lighter and interesting. I select it by right-clicking and copy and paste in a few examples.
Even if someone can think it led me to speed up my work, he is wrong because I must have edited every shape and change its measure. I made it using Select, Rotate and Move tools. When I had already finished I must have put it together by Move tool.
Furthermore, I could paint it by bucket emoji. I chouse brown metal and the covers of the cones make from the glass. And This way my building was created!
The second trial was definitely better. The effect is still not as I wanted, but the shape is close to my plans so it is not so bad. I really happy that it looks more lissomely than first one. I still continue my work with sketchUp as I also design floor plans there!
Great process post. You've added some reflection at the end on the final outcome, but what did you feel about the software itself? Do you feel it is rendering your creative idea the way you want it to?
